About Le Vieux Port
The old harbour of Cannes below Le Suquet, where traditional wooden fishing boats moor among the yachts, and ferries set out across the bay to the Lérins islands.
Le Vieux-Port is the old harbour of Cannes, set between the hill of Le Suquet with its old town, the Quai Saint-Pierre, the Promenade de la Pantiero and the jetty beside the Palais des Festivals. Covering around 23 hectares, it is today mainly a pleasure harbour, with several hundred berths and a separate area for the large yachts for which Cannes is famous. The Quai Saint-Pierre, at the foot of the Suquet, was built in 1838, reportedly thanks to the influence of Lord Brougham.
A few traditional wooden fishing boats of the local pointu type still moor here, a reminder of the harbour's origins as a fishing village below the old town. From the maritime terminal, boats run out across the bay to the Lérins islands and along the coast to Saint-Tropez. Each September the port fills for the Cannes Yachting Festival and the Régates Royales, a week of classic-yacht racing in the bay.
Did you know? The Quai Saint-Pierre at the foot of Le Suquet was built in 1838, reportedly thanks to the influence of Lord Brougham, whose arrival had begun to turn Cannes into a resort.
