About Rue d'Antibes

The Rue d'Antibes is the main shopping street of central Cannes, a straight street running parallel to the seafront one block inland, between the rue du Maréchal-Joffre and the rond-point du Général-Maubert. Named after the town of Antibes, to which it leads, it was given its present course around 1830 and its name by the city council in 1852. It follows part of an old royal road along the coast, and much of its architecture is 19th-century and Belle Époque.
Along with the Croisette it is the busiest street in Cannes, though it is a working street rather than a luxury parade: cars and buses use it, and it is lined with hundreds of shops, mixing international chains with long-established local names. Notable buildings punctuate it, such as the domed Crédit Lyonnais of 1929. Each May the street is dressed with banners for the film festival, when the crowds fill its pavements.
