About Margineda Bridge

The Margineda Bridge, a high single-arch medieval bridge over the Gran Valira on the old royal road, built around the 15th century and among the largest surviving in Andorra.

A record of 1487 mentions a new bridge here, and the bridge dates from the late Middle Ages. It is about 33 metres long and more than 9 metres high, with a cobbled deck and arch stones of light tufa.

It stands beside the old royal road between Sant Julià de Lòria and Andorra la Vella, with a modern bridge of the 1930s nearby. It is free to visit at any time; the cobbles are slippery when wet or icy.

Did you know? A document of 1487 mentions a new bridge at La Margineda, which dates the bridge to the end of the Middle Ages rather than the 12th century.
