About Madriu-Perafita-Claror Valley

The Madriu-Perafita-Claror Valley, a roadless mountain valley covering about a tenth of Andorra, a UNESCO World Heritage cultural landscape of shepherds' huts, terraces and pastures since 2004.

The valley has no roads and is reached only on foot. For more than 700 years its pastures have been owned in common, and stone huts, terraced fields, paths and the remains of an iron forge show how people lived from the high mountains.

UNESCO inscribed it in 2004, Andorra's only World Heritage Site. The main route from Escaldes-Engordany is 13.6 km and climbs 1,180 m, so it needs fitness, boots, food and settled weather; the high parts are best from late June to late September.

Did you know? The Madriu-Perafita-Claror Valley was inscribed by UNESCO in 2004 and is still Andorra's only World Heritage Site, covering about a tenth of the country.
