About Katakolo
Katakolo, the small harbour village on the Ionian coast west of Olympia, where cruise ships dock for visits to the ancient site, with a waterfront of cafes, an old lighthouse and a technology museum.
Katakolo grew around a port built in the late nineteenth century to export currants. Today it is mainly a cruise port for visitors to Olympia, about 45 minutes inland. Its stone lighthouse dates from about 1865.
The village is open at all times and easy to walk. A train runs to Olympia on most days, but not on Sundays; check the timetable and allow time before your ship leaves. Taxis and coaches also make the trip.
