About Workshop of Pheidias
The workshop of Pheidias at Olympia, where the great sculptor made the gold and ivory statue of Zeus, later an early Christian church, identified by tools, moulds and a jug with his name.
The workshop was built in the second half of the fifth century BC, with the same size as the inner room of the Temple of Zeus. Excavations found clay moulds, ivory and tools, and a small jug inscribed I belong to Pheidias.
The workshop is part of the main site ticket and lies just west of the sanctuary. Its interior may be roped off or under restoration. The finds from the workshop are in the Archaeological Museum.
