About Nazi Party Rally Grounds (Reichsparteitagsgelände) and Documentation Center

The former Nazi Party Rally Grounds by the Dutzendteich lake, site of the 1933 to 1938 rallies, with the unfinished Congress Hall and a Documentation Center opened in 2001.

The Reichsparteitagsgelaende, the former Nazi Party Rally Grounds, is a large complex southeast of Nuremberg's centre, beside the Dutzendteich lake, laid out by the Nazi regime for its annual party rallies. The rallies were staged here from 1933 to 1938; a rally planned for 1939 was cancelled at the outbreak of the Second World War. The site was planned to cover roughly eleven square kilometres, much of it never completed, and includes the unfinished Congress Hall and the Zeppelinfeld with its grandstand by Albert Speer.

Since the war the grounds have been used for civic purposes, including motor racing and concerts, while the structures remain. The Documentation Center opened in 2001 in the north wing of the Congress Hall, in a building by Guenther Domenig, and is run by the Museums of the City of Nuremberg. The site is preserved as a place of historical education and remembrance, not celebration.
