About Panometer Leipzig

The Panometer in Leipzig, an old gas holder of 1909 and 1910 where the artist Yadegar Asisi shows huge round panorama pictures, about thirty metres high, seen from the centre of the room.

Since 2003 the brick gas holder, used until 1977, has shown a new panorama every few years, from Mount Everest and ancient Rome to the Titanic and New York. The pictures are made digitally from photographs, drawings and paintings, printed on textile strips and hung in a full circle, with changing light and sound. Since January 2026 the panorama has shown Antarctica.

The Panometer is open daily and needs a ticket; the last entry is an hour before closing. The panorama on show changes every few years, so check what is on before you go.
