About Vitosha Boulevard
Sofia's main shopping street, known as Vitoshka, a lively run of shops and cafe terraces that frames a postcard view of Mount Vitosha rising straight ahead above the city.
Vitosha Boulevard, known affectionately as Vitoshka, is the main commercial street of central Sofia, running about two and a half kilometres from Sveta Nedelya Square toward the south of the city. Lined with shops, restaurants, cafes and bars, its central section is a lively pedestrian promenade, though trams still run on other parts of the street.
The boulevard is named for Mount Vitosha, and its great charm is that the mountain closes the view: look south along the street and the green, often snow-capped massif rises straight ahead above the rooftops. It has long been Sofia's smartest shopping address, once ranked among the most expensive streets in the world, and its cafe terraces are among the best places in the city to sit and watch Sofia go by.
