About Trocadéro & Palais de Chaillot

The Trocadéro esplanade was redesigned for the 1937 International Exposition and became Paris's most famous viewpoint. The Palais de Chaillot, two curved wings of golden stone flanking an open central terrace, was deliberately designed to frame the Eiffel Tower across the Seine with perfect symmetry. The palace houses four major institutions: the Cité de l'Architecture et du Patrimoine (the world's largest architectural museum, holding casts of every French cathedral façade including Notre-Dame portals preserved before the 2019 fire), the Musée de l'Homme (human history from evolution to the present), the Musée National de la Marine, and the Théâtre National de Chaillot. Cascading fountains flanked by bronze sculptures from the 1937 Exposition descend to the Pont d'Iéna.
