About Fondazione Prada

One of Europe's most ambitious contemporary art foundations, housed in a converted 1910 distillery transformed by architect Rem Koolhaas, presenting a permanent collection of major international contemporary art alongside challenging temporary exhibitions.

The Fondazione Prada is one of Europe's most impressive contemporary art institutions, a bold, intellectually rigorous programme of exhibitions and commissions that has placed Milan at the forefront of the global contemporary art world since its permanent home opened in 2015. Designed by the Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas and his firm OMA, the complex occupies a 19,000 square metre former distillery from 1910 in the Largo Isarco area south of the city centre. The original distillery buildings, a mix of brick warehouses and courtyard spaces, were preserved and complemented by three new structures: a massive concrete tower (the Torre), a foam-clad haunted house-like building (the Haunted House), and a horizontal block (the Podium). The permanent collection holds major works by Robert Gober, Walter De Maria, John Baldessari, and Louise Bourgeois. The ground-floor Bar Luce was designed by filmmaker Wes Anderson.

Did you know? The Bar Luce at the Fondazione Prada was entirely conceived and designed by filmmaker Wes Anderson, including the colour palette, furniture, pinball machines, and the pastry menu. Anderson described it as his vision of a café where he would want to spend his afternoons writing.
