About Praia Dona Ana

One of the most beautiful beaches in Portugal, a sheltered sandy cove framed by dramatic red-orange limestone cliffs and rock formations, with crystal-clear turquoise water, consistently voted among the top beaches in Europe.

Praia Dona Ana is consistently ranked among the most beautiful beaches in Portugal and Europe, and its combination of sheltered golden sand, crystalline turquoise water, and surrounding red-orange limestone cliffs and rock formations makes it one of the defining images of the Algarve. The beach is relatively compact, about 200 metres wide, and is backed by limestone cliffs that rise 20-30 metres above the sand level. The rock formations around the beach include natural arches, isolated sea stacks, and cave entrances, many of which can be explored by sea kayak or small boat. The water is typically calm and clear, protected from the prevailing westerly swell by the headlands on either side, making it ideal for swimming and snorkelling. The beach has Blue Flag certification and is one of the most popular beaches near Lagos.

Did you know? Praia Dona Ana was named one of the most beautiful beaches in the world by Condé Nast Traveller in 2013, its combination of natural limestone formations, protected cove setting, and exceptional water clarity makes it one of the most photogenic beaches in the entire country.
