About Myrtos Beach

A long arc of round white pebbles below tall cliffs on the north-west coast, reached by a road of hairpin bends, where the sea shines a vivid turquoise from the viewpoint above.

Myrtos lies on the north-west coast of Kefalonia, in a bay between the slopes of Agia Dynati and Kalon Oros. Its beach is a long arc of round white pebbles that get smaller towards the water, below pale cliffs. A steep road of about two kilometres, with hairpin bends, leads down from the village of Divarata, and the best view is from the road above.

The area is protected as a Natura site. Kefalonia is very active seismically, and the cliffs can shed rock: after the earthquakes of 2014 rockfall barriers were built, and in July 2026 part of the slope gave way onto the beach. The eastern end near the cave is fenced off; obey the signs and do not sit or swim under the cliffs.

Did you know? The beach of Myrtos is made of round white pebbles that grow smaller towards the water's edge. Winter storms can move them and change the shape of the beach.
