The Parque de las Ciencias is the largest science museum in Andalusia and one of the finest interactive science parks in Spain. The park was founded in 1995 and has grown substantially since then, now covering an area of 70,000 square metres with a wide range of permanent and temporary exhibitions. Highlights include the Planetarium, one of the largest in Spain; the Tropical Butterfly Vivarium; the Biodome, an indoor tropical ecosystem; an observation tower with views over Granada; Al-Andalus and Science, a permanent exhibition on the scientific contributions of Islamic Spain; and extensive interactive physics and technology exhibitions. The park is an excellent half-day excursion, particularly for families with children.
