About Mirador de San Nicolás
The most celebrated viewpoint in Granada, a hilltop terrace in the Albaicín from which the full length of the Alhambra is seen against the backdrop of the Sierra Nevada, most beautiful at sunset.
The Mirador de San Nicolás is the most celebrated viewpoint in Granada and one of the most famous views in Spain. The terrace, located in the upper Albaicín next to the 16th-century church of San Nicolás, looks directly across the Darro gorge to the Alhambra, presenting the entire length of the palace-fortress complex against the backdrop of the Sierra Nevada. In winter, when the mountains are snow-covered, the view is particularly spectacular: the warm red walls of the Alhambra contrast with the white peaks behind. The mirador is busiest at sunset, when the Alhambra turns from red to amber to deep gold in the fading light. Street musicians, often playing flamenco or classical guitar, add to the atmosphere. Arrive at least an hour before sunset to secure a position on the terrace.
Did you know? US President Bill Clinton visited the Mirador de San Nicolás at sunset in July 1997 and reportedly called it the most beautiful sunset in the world, a remark publicised by the city that helped trigger a wave of American tourism to Granada.
