About Cabo Girão Skywalk

Cabo Girão is a towering sea cliff on the south coast of Madeira, west of Funchal in the municipality of Câmara de Lobos, and its glass-floored skywalk is one of the island's most thrilling viewpoints. The cliff rises about 580 metres sheer from the Atlantic, and the viewing platform, opened in 2012, lets visitors stand on a transparent floor and look straight down the drop. It is billed as the highest cliff skywalk in Europe, and is among the highest sea cliffs on the continent.
From the platform the view falls away to the farmed terraces, the fajãs, at the foot of the cliff, reachable only by a cable car built in 2003, and out across the ocean; in clear weather you can see along the coast to Câmara de Lobos and Funchal. The viewpoint, set out from the 1930s, sits in a protected coastal area. It lies roughly nine kilometres west of central Funchal, an easy half-day trip paired with the fishing town of Câmara de Lobos below.
