About Tibidabo

The highest peak of the Serra de Collserola behind Barcelona, crowned by the neo-Gothic Temple of the Sacred Heart and a historic amusement park founded in 1905, offering the most complete aerial view of the city and the Mediterranean.

Tibidabo, at 512 metres above sea level, is the highest peak of the Serra de Collserola, the mountain ridge that forms the dramatic backdrop to Barcelona. From its summit, on a clear day, you can see the entire city spread out below, the Mediterranean, and the mountains of Majorca on the horizon. The name Tibidabo comes from the Latin "tibi dabo", "I will give you", from the gospel passage in which the Devil offers Christ all the kingdoms of the earth visible from a high mountain. The summit is dominated by two landmarks: the neo-Gothic Temple Expiatori del Sagrat Cor (Temple of the Sacred Heart), built between 1902 and 1961, which is surmounted by a large bronze statue of Christ with arms outstretched; and the Parc d'Atraccions del Tibidabo, one of Europe's oldest amusement parks, founded in 1905, with some original rides still in operation. The funicular railway up to Tibidabo, the Tramvia Blau (Blue Tram) and funicular combination, is itself a heritage journey through the upper Eixample and the Gràcia foothills.

Did you know? The Parc d'Atraccions del Tibidabo is one of the oldest continuously operating amusement parks in the world, founded in 1905, it predates Disneyland by 50 years and still has some early 20th-century rides in operation, including a 1920s aeroplane ride.
