About Paseo Marítimo

One of the longest sea promenades in Europe, 13 kilometres of walkway along A Coruña's Atlantic coastline, from the city beaches north to the Tower of Hercules, with constant Atlantic views, wind-sculpted trees, and the distinctive Galician light.

The Paseo Marítimo de A Coruña is one of the great urban promenades of northern Spain, a 13-kilometre walkway that runs along the entire Atlantic coastline of the city, from the urban beaches of Riazor and Orzán in the south, around the rocky headland, past the Domus Museum and the Aquarium Finisterrae, and all the way north to the promontory of the Tower of Hercules. The promenade was developed progressively from the late 19th century as A Coruña expanded, and it is now lined with benches, sculptures, playgrounds, cafés, and the characteristic pines and eucalyptus trees of the Galician coast, bent and shaped by the constant Atlantic winds. The promenade is at its most dramatic in stormy weather, when Atlantic waves crash against the rocks below the walkway and spray reaches the parapet; in calm weather it offers peaceful walking with constant views of the grey-green Atlantic. It is used daily by joggers, cyclists, families, and elderly Galicians taking the air. The section along the city beaches is most popular in summer; the northern section near the Tower of Hercules is more solitary and dramatic.

Did you know? A Coruña's Paseo Marítimo is widely described as the longest urban seafront promenade in Europe, at around 13 kilometres, it significantly surpasses the famous Promenade des Anglais in Nice (about 7 km) and the Brighton seafront.
