Ruzafa (in Valencian: Russafa) is Valencia's most vibrant creative neighbourhood, a former immigrant and working-class district immediately south of the old city centre that has undergone a remarkable transformation over the past 15 years. The neighbourhood is centred on the Mercat de Russafa, a covered market, and radiates outward through narrow streets lined with independent restaurants, design-conscious cafés, concept stores, and art galleries. Ruzafa is particularly notable for its restaurant scene, which is widely considered the most interesting in Valencia, a dense concentration of small, independent restaurants serving excellent food from a wide variety of cuisines including Valencian, Japanese, Mexican, Middle Eastern, and Italian.
