About Moselle Wine Valley
Luxembourg's wine-producing heartland, the Moselle river valley forming the border with Germany, planted with Riesling, Rivaner, and Pinot Gris vineyards, with charming wine villages and cellars.
The Moselle valley is Luxembourg's wine country, a long, narrow stretch of south-facing slopes along the Moselle river, which forms Luxembourg's eastern border with Germany. The vineyards, planted primarily with Riesling, Rivaner (Müller-Thurgau), Auxerrois, Pinot Gris, and Pinot Blanc, produce wines that are lighter and more delicate than their German counterparts from across the river, thanks to the particular combination of limestone-rich soils and the slightly cooler Luxembourg climate. The wine villages of the Moselle, Remich, Wormeldange, Grevenmacher, and others, are charming communities with excellent wine cellars open for tasting. The Moselle is also navigable, and boat cruises along the river are a popular way to experience the wine country. The annual Moselle wine festivals are among the most celebrated events in Luxembourg.
Did you know? Luxembourg has 1,300 hectares of vineyards along the Moselle, producing primarily Riesling, Rivaner, and Pinot Gris, a wine tradition dating back to the Roman period.
