About Adolphe Bridge

Luxembourg's most famous bridge, a magnificent 1903 stone arch spanning the Pétrusse valley, named after Grand Duke Adolphe, offering dramatic views over the lower valley and old fortifications.

The Adolphe Bridge is Luxembourg City's most celebrated and photographed landmark, a magnificent stone arch bridge spanning the deep Pétrusse valley between the old town and the newer districts to the west. Built between 1900 and 1903 and named after reigning Grand Duke Adolphe, the bridge is constructed of Luxembourg pink sandstone in a graceful neo-Gothic style, with a main arch span of 85 metres, at the time of its completion, one of the largest stone arch bridges in the world. The bridge carries a six-lane road across the valley while two pedestrian walkways hang below the roadway, offering unobstructed views up and down the Pétrusse valley. The bridge is best viewed from the Place de la Constitution at its eastern end, where the combination of the bridge arch, the valley below, and the fortification towers of the old city create one of the most iconic images in Luxembourg.

Did you know? When completed in 1903, the Adolphe Bridge's 85-metre stone arch was one of the largest stone arch spans in the world, a major engineering achievement.
