About Sitges
A glamorous seaside resort 35 km from Barcelona, a charming whitewashed town with 17 excellent beaches, a Modernista heritage, a celebrated carnival, an internationally famous LGBTQ+ scene, and a picturesque old town built around a cliff-top baroque church.
Sitges is the most glamorous and characterful seaside resort within easy reach of Barcelona, a small town of about 30,000 inhabitants that becomes a major destination in summer, attracting visitors from Barcelona and from across Europe. The town is famous for its 17 beaches, its well-preserved historic centre of whitewashed houses and narrow lanes, its Modernista heritage (including the Cau Ferrat museum, former home of the artist Santiago Rusiñol), its internationally celebrated February Carnival (one of the most elaborate in Spain), and its vibrant LGBTQ+ scene. A direct train from Passeig de Gràcia takes about 40 minutes.
Did you know? Sitges has a film festival, the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival, that is one of the most important genre film festivals in the world, specialising in horror, fantasy, and science fiction. It has been held annually since 1968 and has launched the careers of many important filmmakers.
