About Westersingel & Sculpture Route

The Westersingel is one of Rotterdam's most pleasant linear green spaces, a canal boulevard running north to south through the western edge of the city centre, connecting the Museumpark district with the older parts of the city near the Blaak area. The canal itself dates from the 19th century, when a ring of canals was built around the expanding Rotterdam city centre. Today the Westersingel is most celebrated for its outdoor sculpture collection, which lines both sides of the canal path with works by Dutch and international sculptors. The sculptures change periodically through temporary acquisitions and loans. The path is one of the most popular walking and cycling routes in the inner city, and the combination of water, trees, sculptures, and historic and modern buildings on either side makes it one of the most attractive linear public spaces in Rotterdam.
