About Kato Paphos Harbour

The lively seafront heart of the resort, a small working harbour of fishing boats and excursion craft below the castle, lined with fish tavernas and cafes, beside the ancient city and its mosaics.

Kato Paphos Harbour, below the castle, is the lively seafront heart of the resort. Built around the medieval port of the lower town, it shelters some three hundred boats, fishing craft and a marina along with glass-bottom and pirate-style excursion boats that take visitors out along the coast. The quay is lined with fish tavernas and cafes, and the promenade below the castle is the place to stroll, especially at sunset.

The harbour sits right beside the Paphos Archaeological Park, so the ancient and the modern meet at the water's edge. The ancient port of Nea Paphos was a Ptolemaic shipbuilding centre and a hub of trade across the eastern Mediterranean; today Kato Paphos is the busiest of the area's resorts, its working population largely living from tourism and the sea.
