About Palazzo Pfanner

Palazzo Pfanner in Lucca, a seventeenth-century palace of silk merchants with a grand outdoor staircase and a Baroque garden of statues and lemon trees, also seen from the city walls.

The palace was begun around 1660 and sold in 1680 to the Controni, silk merchants. Its garden, attributed to Filippo Juvarra, was laid out in the early eighteenth century. From 1846 an Austrian brewer, Felix Pfanner, ran a brewery here, and his family still owns it.

The garden and the museum are open from mid-March to the end of December, with one ticket; check the daily hours. Parts may close for weddings and events. The garden can be seen for free from the top of the walls.
