About Miniatur Wunderland

The world's largest model railway exhibition, with 16 km of track, over 1,040 running trains, a working miniature airport, and a spectacular day-to-night lighting sequence, all inside a Speicherstadt warehouse.

Miniatur Wunderland, opened in 2001 by brothers Frederik and Gerrit Braun, has grown into the world's largest model railway and miniature exhibition. Spread across several floors of a Speicherstadt warehouse, it contains over 16 kilometres of track on which more than 1,040 trains run simultaneously. Themed sections represent Hamburg, Austria, Switzerland, Scandinavia, the USA, Italy, and more. The working Knuffingen Airport features miniature planes that actually taxi, take off, and land. At regular intervals a night sequence dims the lights across the entire layout, switching on thousands of tiny streetlamps and car headlights for a breathtaking effect. Around 300,000 lights and 200,000 tiny human figures populate the display. Remarkably, the exhibit continues to expand, new sections are added each year. It regularly tops Hamburg's most-visited attraction list and has received over 14 million visitors since opening.

Did you know? Miniatur Wunderland's 1,040+ running trains cover a combined daily distance equivalent to travelling from Hamburg to Cape Town and back.
