The Cathédrale Saint-Pierre is a Roman Catholic cathedral in the heart of Annecy's old town, dedicated to Saint Peter and a short walk from the Palais de l'Île. It is a 16th-century building: its strictly Renaissance façade, with Tuscan pilasters and a pediment, was completed in 1535, and the church was consecrated in 1539. From 1538 it served as a refuge for the Chapter of Saint-Pierre of Geneva, displaced by the Reformation.
It functioned as an episcopal seat between 1782 and 1792 and became a cathedral in 1822, as the seat of the diocese of Annecy. Saint Francis de Sales officiated here as bishop in the 17th century, and Jean-Jacques Rousseau, by his own account, sang in the choir school in 1729. Standing beside the former bishop's palace, the cathedral preserves a notable organ and Renaissance-era religious art and fittings.
