About Stonehenge

The world's most famous prehistoric monument, a UNESCO World Heritage Site built in stages over 1,500 years.

Stonehenge is a prehistoric monument on Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire, England, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was constructed in several stages, with the earliest phase dating to about 3000 BC and the iconic stone circle erected around 2500 BC. The monument consists of a ring of standing stones, each around 13 feet high and weighing about 25 tons, topped by connecting horizontal lintel stones.

Did you know? The smaller bluestones were transported approximately 150 miles from the Preseli Hills in Wales, how Neolithic people achieved this remains a mystery.
