About Paseo del Parque
Málaga's grand seafront promenade and botanical garden, a 1.5-kilometre avenue of tropical and subtropical trees planted at the end of the 19th century along the reclaimed seafront, with remarkable specimens including giant ficus, dragon trees, and palm groves, forming a living catalogue of the plants that thrive in Málaga's warm microclimate.
The Paseo del Parque is a 1.5-kilometre tree-lined promenade along the seafront between the port and the Paseo de la Farola, created on land reclaimed from the sea at the end of the 19th century. The promenade functions simultaneously as a public park and a botanical collection: the trees include magnificent specimens of ficus, jacaranda, dragon trees, rubber trees, palms, and many tropical and subtropical species that thrive in Málaga's warm climate. The park contains over 100 species of trees and plants. Several important monuments and fountains are situated within the park, and the promenade is one of the most popular walking routes in the city.
Did you know? Málaga's climate is classified as semi-arid Mediterranean, with an average of 300 sunny days per year and temperatures that rarely drop below 10°C in winter. This makes it one of the warmest cities in continental Europe, with a climate more comparable to North Africa than to northern Spain. The Paseo del Parque's tropical trees are only possible because of this exceptional climate, and many of the species represented there would not survive outdoors in Madrid, Barcelona, or any northern European city.
