About Glenfinnan Viaduct

The iconic 21-arch railway viaduct made world-famous as the "Harry Potter bridge" in the film series.

The Glenfinnan Viaduct is a 380-metre-long railway viaduct with 21 arches, standing up to 30 metres high. Built between 1897 and 1901, it was a pioneering feat of concrete engineering. It became world-famous when the Hogwarts Express was filmed crossing it in the Harry Potter films. The Jacobite steam train still runs across it during summer months, and the viewpoint overlooking the viaduct with Loch Shiel behind is one of the most photographed spots in Scotland.

Did you know? The Jacobite steam train crosses the viaduct on the very line used in the Harry Potter films, run by West Coast Railways, the same company that supplied the Hogwarts Express locomotive, "Olton Hall," which is now displayed at the Warner Bros. Studio Tour in London.
