About Fairy Pools

Crystal-clear natural pools and waterfalls at the foot of the Black Cuillins, with water so clear it seems enchanted.

The Fairy Pools are a series of crystal-clear, blue-green pools and waterfalls on the River Brittle, at the foot of the Black Cuillin mountains on the Isle of Skye. The pools are famous for their extraordinarily clear water, which reveals every pebble and rock on the bottom, and their beautiful blue-green colour caused by the mineral composition of the rock. On rare sunny days, brave visitors swim in the pools, though the water temperature rarely rises above 10°C.

Did you know? The water temperature rarely exceeds 10°C even in summer, but that doesn't stop hundreds of brave swimmers each year.
