About Rozenhoedkaai

The most photographed viewpoint in Bruges, where the Dijver canal meets Wollestraat and the Belfry rises perfectly above the medieval rooftops and waterways.

Rozenhoedkaai, meaning "Rosary Quay" in Dutch, is the single most photographed spot in Bruges and one of the most reproduced views in all of Belgium. It is the point where the Dijver canal bends and opens up to reveal a perfect medieval tableau: weeping willows trailing in the water, ancient stone bridges, rows of stepped-gable guild houses reflected in the still canal, and above them all, rising perfectly centred, the Belfry tower. The name recalls the medieval trade in rosary beads that took place here. At dawn and dusk, and particularly in autumn when the trees turn golden, the view is absolutely magical. Every canal tour passes this point, and it appears on countless postcards, paintings, and photographs of the city.

Did you know? The name Rozenhoedkaai means "Rosary Quay" in Dutch, recalling the medieval trade in rosary beads sold to pilgrims visiting Bruges's holy sites.
