About Assembly Rooms & Fashion Museum
Magnificent 18th-century rooms where Georgian high society gathered for dances, concerts, and card games.
The Assembly Rooms were designed by John Wood the Younger and opened in 1771 as the social hub of fashionable Georgian Bath. The Ball Room, Tea Room, Card Room, and Octagon provided the stage for the elaborate social rituals described in Jane Austen's novels. Badly damaged in the Bath Blitz of 1942, they were beautifully restored and are now managed by the National Trust.
Did you know? The Ball Room is over 100 feet long and was one of the largest public rooms in 18th-century England, lit by five enormous crystal chandeliers.
